MEMBERS HAVE GREAT TIME ROWING WITH PLAYERS
15/02/2010 6:22:37 PM

Wests Tigers Members Julie Davies and Robbie Harrison will always remember the time they went rowing with several players from their favourite team.

Julie, from Torro in Newcastle, and Robbie, from Evatt in the ACT, drove to Sydney to join Gareth Ellis, Jason Cayless, Tame Tupou, Robert Lui, Junior Roqica and Aaron Woods in the Wests Tigers Dragon Boat as they competed in three races over 200 metres against the ACCA Sydney Fish Market team.

The competition was open only to Wests Tigers Members.

The Dragon Boat races were held as part of the Sydney Fish Market’s Year of the Tiger celebrations.

The ACCA team, made up of state, national and international rowing representatives, won the opening race by about a half a length before Wests Tigers re-grouped to win the second race by around the same margin.

It was a different story in the third race with the ACCA team pulling away to victory. Knowing they were beaten, Woods and Roqica decided it was time for a water fight with all competitors getting out of the boat very wet, including this author and Fox Sports News presenter Christian Jantzen.

Following the races, the players and members joined the ACCA team for a lovely barbecue seafood lunch in between signing autographs and posing for photos.

Here is a letter of appreciation from Wests Tigers Member Julie Davies.

“Just a short note to thank the Wests Tigers, the players and the Fish Markets for a wonderful day at the Dragon Boat races.

The Dragon Boat races were great fun, although I think I used muscles I didn't know I had.

Ewan, Georgia and I had a terrific day and were overwhelmed by the way we were embraced by the players and Wayne Cousins.

The players who attended need to be praised for they not only represented the Wests Tigers in a positive light but were great ambassadors for the game of rugby league.

Their interaction with the general public also needs to be commended as they all took time out to have pictures taken and to give autographs when asked. WELL DONE !

Again thank you for organising the day, we had a brilliant time. GO THE MIGHTY TIGERS .............here’s hoping 2010 is the ‘Year of the Tiger’.”

Here is a letter of appreciation from Wests Tigers Member Robbie Harrison.

'Just a short note to thank Wayne Cousins and the players for a great day on Sunday. Top bunch of guys and I enjoyed every minute.
Having only recently moved to the ACT from Griffith in the Riverina, this is the first year I am within range to sign on and physically get to as many games as possible.
My short time as a Wests Tigers member has been something I won't forget and I was chuffed to be so warmly welcomed by Wayne and the players.
A big thanks to the Sydney Fish Market for the lunch spread and the ACCA Racing team for the opportunity (.They won the Race.... But we will win the war!!!)
Once again, Thanks. All the best for this year. TIGERS 2010!"

Footnote: Wests Tigers wishes to thank the Sydney Fish Market ACCA Dragon Boat Racing team for their friendliness and assistance; and Sydney Fish Market’s David Sandrussi, Louisa Goodall, and Gus Dannoun for their hard work in making the day a wonderful success. We enjoyed it very much.
