LOTE COMES THROUGH FIRST TRAINING SESSION
11/03/2010 5:53:08 PM

New Wests Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri showed little signs of jet lag when he took to the field for his first training session at Concord Oval this afternoon.

Tuqiri meet his team-mates for the first time today after arriving in Sydney yesterday morning from London.

The dual international jogged onto Concord Oval to a small applause from team-mates and a few interested supporters in the stand. One supporter even brought his two dogs down for a look.

There to film his every move were photographers and camera crews, such is the strong interest and demand for Tuqiri at present. This was no more evident than at yesterday’s press conference for Tuqiri which attracted the biggest ever media gathering for a Wests Tigers player.

Lock Liam Fulton tried to trick photographers and cameramen after spotting half-back Robert Lui and his short hair coming down the tunnel.

“Lote, you’ve had a haircut,’’ Fulton joked.

The players then underwent a short speed and agility session before completing team-work under Tim Sheens and his coaching staff.

Tuqiri has been named on the wing to play Manly Sea Eagles at the Sydney Football Stadium on Monday, March 15, at 7pm.

Although he is keen to play, Sheens will continue to monitor Tuqiri’s progress over the next few days but anticipates he would play.

Should he take the field, it will not only be Tuqiri’s Wests Tigers debut but his 100th NRL game after spending the last seven years playing rugby union.

wow its nice to see we finally have something good to complain about depth personally i would love to see chris lawrence at lock geoff daniella and blake ashford centres and marshall taumata scrum base lui is showing promise but not ready for fulltime first grade as he seems to get a bit lost but hey at least we have talent lots of talent good luck tigers and see you in october at the finals

@ the zik, sheens went for fitzhenry over taumata incase tuqiri doesnt play the full game. he can then slot fitzhenry on the wing. I'd much rather see taumata in the side too though. he might be injured because he wasnt in the team listings for wests or balmain in the nsw cup

Im glad both Fulton and Fitzhenry are back as it adds depth. Im surprised coach Sheens went for Fitzhenry over Taumata. Does anybody know whether he's injured? Best of luck boys!!

If i remember correctly we won the grand final with a small team. Fulton and fitz were in that team too, there was no complaining then.

Fulton = good. Not big, but strong, devoted and determined. I wish i could say the same about Fitzhenry. Whoever called him Fitzfumbles is right, he can run but that's when he catches the ball. As for him being able to replace Farah... You're having it on Northcote Tiger

Finally, enough already with bagging Fulton and Fitzhenry. Fulton has to aim up and he will.Fitz has the experience to give Robbie a break. Our competitors rate the Tigers highly this year. Let's go!

The whinging about Liam Fulton seems to be concerned with size, 'he's too small...' blah, de, blah, de, blah. Melbourne have been the the most consistent team over the past 4 years yet their pack is not huge by any means, they just do their jobs very well. Dallas Jonhson, now OS, is not much bigger than Liam. And if it's Liam's defence they're worried about then please check nrl stats from 2008, Liam's defence was no better or worse than all Tiger forwards. Tigers!!!

come on guys its gonna be a good year so stop whinging , sit back and enjoy the ride

We bought size for a reason and we still select Fulton and Heinington,Cayless in for Gibbs,Morrs for Fulton and Flanagan for Heino.Lets bash em early or at least stand toe to toe with their big pack and the introduce some agility with our smaller mobile forwards.

Very good news from the Tigers. The guys have fun and do concentrate on keeping their spot. There is no better way to reach the top. We are with Tim Sheens who selected a superb pack of Tigers. Tigers are on the right track for 2010. There will be ups and downs but in the long run they will make it big. See you guys on Monday!

We'll be at the Manly game cheering you on Lote, best wishes to you and the WESTS Tigers team on Monday night. As for the comments about Liam Fulton and Daniel Firzhenry, come on Tigers fans stop being so critical without first seeing what they can deliver to the team. Give these blokes a go and show some support, they are in the opinion of Tim Sheens and Roycey the best option at this stage of the season. Go Lote, go Fitzy, go Liam Fulton, etc, TIGERS!

So good to see the guys having fun after what has sounded like an intense off season of training. Glad to hear that Liam is giving everyone a laugh! Have a good year fellas hope lote fits in well :)

Any true 'supporter' would have noticed that the best forward on the field for the tigers in the foundation cup was Fulton (spewing and all)

Im sick and tired of people bagging the Fitz and the Fults. They are back so just support them, U people remind me of parra fans!!!!!!!

Swede - Seriously..the negativity is just lame and makes me angry! Give it a rest and just SUPPORT your team!! Fitzhenry and Fulton are great players and won us a premiership, they deserve more respect. I personally like the pranks too. Funny stuff by Fulton! Supporting a team with a good character is more important to me that one that win's each game in a robotic fashion.Keep up the great work fellas!! Can't wait till kickoff on Monday! ... and Welcome Lote!!

Trust the clown prince Fulton to try and be funny. He ought to concentrate on keeping his spot.Lots of us are not impressed by his and Fitzfumbles selection.
