Wests Tigers will look to secure an all-important two points heading into next week’s bye when they take on the Parramatta Eels this Monday at ANZ Stadium.

Winners in just one of their last seven, Wests Tigers know the importance of Monday night’s “four-point match” heading into a bye in order to keep their finals hopes alive — a task made difficult by the absence of Origin stars Robbie Farah and Aaron Woods.

However, it’s worth noting as well that the last time Jason Taylor’s side played without the star duo, they delivered arguably their best performance of the season to dismantle the defending premiers South Sydney Rabbitohs 34-6 back in Round 14.

Comfortable winners when they played the Eels earlier in the year, Wests Tigers will be hoping a strong recent record against Parramatta — winning nine of the last 12 meetings between the two sides — will again come to the fore on Monday night.

After struggling earlier in the year amidst a raft of off-field dramas, the Eels have bounced back on the field with three wins from their last four games, and will be looking to produce another strong performance to similarly keep their finals hopes alive.

It’s shaping as an intriguing clash between two sides that both have plenty to gain heading into their respective byes next weekend. Who will emerge with the two competition points?
