It was on this day, September 24, in 2005 that Wests Tigers produced one of rugby league's greatest ever finals upsets as they beat the St. George-Illawarra Dragons 20-12 in their Preliminary Final — booking their place in the 2005 Grand Final.

With a try to Dene Halatau in both halves, Wests Tigers led from start to finish, and produced a resilient effort in the second half to hold out the high-flying Dragons.
