Wests Tigers forward Joel Edwards spoke after helping his side to a 36-24 win over the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday afternoon at Mount Smart Stadium.

With Chris Lawrence (knee), Kyle Lovett (sickness) and Curtis Sironen (sickness) all withdrawn from the starting side in the 24 hours leading up to kickoff, Edwards was thrown into the run-on team on the left edge, but said he felt he handled the occasion well.

"It was challenging — it was a really fast 20 minutes," he said.

"We had to get through a bit of work early on, but I think the boys deserve full credit — they really dug deep when we needed to and when the going was really tough.

"We won that game off the back of what we did in defence.

"There's lots of confidence that we can take form that," he continued.

"We got tested a lot today — Shaun Johnson is a quality player and he threw a lot at us, and their forwards really made it tough for our guys in the middle all afternoon.

"But we handled what they threw at us and came away with the win.

"It's probably a good practice run for Canberra [next week]. They have a similarly strong pack, so we're going to have to be on our game to get a result in that one."
