Wests Tigers recruit Jamal Idris says he’s incredibly excited to get to work with his new club as he looks to make a successful return to the NRL in season 2017.

Idris played a total of 131 first-grade games before quitting rugby league in 2015, but says he’s feeling refreshed and motivated to crack Wests Tigers NRL squad this season.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last year, and the biggest thing was that I was playing rugby league for other people,” he reflected. “This time, I’m playing rugby league for myself.

“My goal is to reach my peak potential, and that’s what I want to do.

“I’ve come back on my own terms — I wanted to come back.

“I think that’s the main thing about it for me. You wouldn’t think that you would miss it [being away from the game], but I really did and it’s great to be back.

“There’s no better way to get back into it than by getting stuck in at training, and I’m improving every week. I’m just hoping to do that now week in and week out.”

A fan favourite at the Bulldogs, Titans and Panthers before his departure from the game, Idris said he was excited to be a part of Wests Tigers’ young squad in season 2017, and that the combinations developing at the club were a big reason behind his commitment.

“It’s so exciting there are a lot of up-and-coming young players here,” Idris enthused.

“The average age is really young, and they’re only going to get better and more experienced. And if they do that together, we’re going to gel really well as a team.

“ I can’t wait to meet all the new fans and Members of Wests Tigers.

“This Club has a great history with Balmain and Western Suburbs, and a great supporter base, and I’m looking forward to meet and get to know so many more fans here.”
