Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks says he's looking forward to making his Auckland Nines debut when the tournament kicks off next weekend at Eden Park.

After watching from home for the past three years, the former Dally M Rookie of the Year said he was a little unsure exactly what the tournament would hold, but was looking forward to taking to the field in preparation for what he hopes will be a big 2017 season.

"First time heading over so I'm pretty excited to get out there and give it a go," he said.

"It's been a long pre-season so it's exciting for the boys to get a bit of footy.

"It's not quite normal footy but it's something fun and we're all excited to go and play."

Having watched the Club's young guns show their skills throughout pre-season, Brooks said he was looking forward to seeing how some of the young brigade far against senior opponents.

"It's a good chance for those young boys to really show what they've got," he said.

"Coming up against experienced NRL players will be a tough test, but I think it's a good stepping stone for those young boys who want to try and crack it in first-grade.

"I'm personally really looking forward to seeing Esan Marsters — he's been training good.

"I think the Nines will really suit him and his footwork."
