Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor and captain Aaron Woods reflect on the side's impressive season opener — a 34-18 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Trailing early, Wests Tigers blew the Rabbitohs off the park in an impressive middle hour of footy — chalking up six tries in quick succession to emerge with a convincing 16-point win.

While off to a successful start, Taylor said there was still plenty to work on in 2017.

"We were a bit patchy tonight," Taylor admitted.

"We made it hard for ourselves at times, particularly in the first half, but we found some rhythm in the middle and started the second half well which was really impressive.

"We held the ball and made them tackle us and controlled the game well.

"We put the game beyond doubt in the way we started that second half."

In his second year as captain of Wests Tigers, Woods was happy with the effort across the board from his side — praising the composure of his side in a bruising encounter.

"I think the boys did really well tonight," he said.

"We just wanted to worry about ourselves and go do a good job.

"We did that for 65,60 minutes — we slacked off a bit so it gives us something to work on.

"We've had a long pre-season so it's good to see the little things come off tonight.

"We played simple footy tonight, and we did that really well."
