Wests Tigers forward Chris Lawrence says the calmness shown by Coach Ivan Cleary is starting to show in his side after a gutsy win over the Bulldogs on Sunday night.

After dropping a 22-10 lead against the Parramatta Eels in Round 7, Lawrence said delivering late in the match against the Bulldogs was an important step for the team to take in 2017.

"It's certainly a good feeling to get the win," Lawrence said.

"We feel like we let one get away last week so it's good to get there this week.

"I think [Ivan's] really tried to simplify things, which has been helpful.

"It's helped keep our minds focused on the things we do well and reinforced that.

"At times, we've been guilty of trying to put too much on in attack, and that lack of execution in attack is really hurting our defence, and they're the issues we've been working through.

"For us, it's about giving ourselves an opportunity in that last 10 minutes," he said.

"Some games you're not going to win in those situations, but if you're in every game, then we know we've got enough talent to get ourselves over the line in those tight situations."
