Wests Tigers Holden Cup side have produced a thrilling upset to down the Brisbane Broncos 22-12 in wet conditions at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Despite missing a number of key players and forced to travel to Suncorp Stadium earlier on Friday morning, Chris Hutchison’s side began the stronger of the two to sensationally lead the home side 16-4 at the half-time break before the Broncos mounted a comeback.

Leading 16-12 late in the contest, a try to Jake Scott in the final minutes would ensure Wests Tigers a dramatic upset win — holding on at the end for a 10-point victory.

Winger James Tautaiolefua continued his impressive rookie season when he swooped on an intercept to score after just three minutes of play, converting the try for a 6-0 lead.

The visitors would double their advantage soon after through Trent Pye, with the backrower crashing over after 12 minutes to give Wests Tigers a commanding 12-0 lead.

Brisbane would hit back through Keenan Palasia moments later to cut the lead to 12-4, but a second try to Tautaiolefua restored the visitors’ lead back to 12 points.

Tautaiolefua looked to try and complete his hat-trick just before the half-time break, but was taken into touch by a desperate Broncos defence — ensuring a 16-4 half-time score.

Needing to start fast in the second half, Brisbane would strike back with two quick tries through David Fauid and Jai Whitbread, but missed conversions from Gerome Burns and Kontoni Staggs would ensure Wests Tigers would remain in front with 20 minutes to go.

But the match in the balance, Scott’s try with five minutes to go ensured Wests Tigers a thrilling win, with Tautaiolefua converting in front to give the visitors a 22-12 win.

Wests Tigers 22 (Tautaiolefua 2, Pye, Scott tries; Tautaiolefua 3/4 goals) def. Brisbane Broncos 12 (Palasia, Fauid, Whitbread tries; Burns 0/2, Staggs 0/1 goals)
