Wests Tigers Holden Cup side have gone down 54-16 to the St. George-Illawarra Dragons today in a disappointing afternoon for Chris Hutchison's men at ANZ Stadium.

It was all the home side early in the contest, with the Dragons pacing the clock to lead 38-4 at half-time, before Wests Tigers showed some resistance in the second half to fight back.

Rhys Sciglitano, Thomas Mikaele and Peter Pakoti all crossed for tries to give the visitors some respectability on the scoreboard in the second half, before the Dragons again showed their attacking prowess late in the contest — running in a couple of further of late tries to emerge with a convincing 38-point win in cool conditions at ANZ Stadium.

Wests Tigers Holden Cup side will look to turn the result around next Sunday when they take on the Sydney Roosters as part of a three-game program at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

St. George-Illawarra 54 (Sailor 3, Gillard 3, Johns 2, Marsters 1, Robson 1 tries; Lomax 7/10 goals) def. Wests Tigers 16 (Sciglitano, Mikaele, Pakoti tries; Tautaiolefua 2/3 goals)
