Wests Tigers forward Chris Lawrence spoke to the media on Friday as the team gets ready to take on the Penrith Panthers this Sunday afternoon at Pepper Stadium.
After a good last start win over the Gold Coast Titans that took him to equal as the Club's all time leading try-scorer, Lawrence said it was important to continue that momentum this week.
"That was a good win and something we've been building for the past few weeks," he said.
"Still plenty of things to work on but hopefully we can take that confidence into this week.
“You can see that over our last month of football, while we’ve only got the two wins I think a couple of those games, we’ve been in the game right at the end and probably with better execution would have got those games. It helps with a little bit of stability and hopefully we can continue that consistency this week.
“Obviously it was a challenging time when (Cleary) came in with guys off contract, a lot of that has settled down now with everyone focusing on footy and I think you can see that.
"We're really starting to gel well as a team now."
Lawrence became equal top try scorer of Wests Tigers with Benji Marshall on the weekend, and spoke of the impending milestone that would see him become the outright leader.
“I didn’t know that until I got reminded of it after the game," he said.
I spoke to Benji after the game so hopefully I can get one before the end of the year.
“At the start of the year someone mentioned it to me but I didn’t realise till after the game.
"If I’d known on the field I would have been trying to get the boys to get me another one to get the leading try scorer there but five games to go hopefully I can get over again.”
The second-rower also gave his thoughts on taking on the Penrith Panthers this Sunday — pointing out the strengths of the side and what is motivating his team for the Round 22 clash.
“They’re playing really good footy, they’re on a role and they’re going to be looking to get the win obviously to try and push for the top eight," he said.
"They’re a big physical side and play with a lot of skill, they’ve got plenty of threats and we’ll have to really be on defensively if we’re going to get the win.
"The aim for us to keep playing good consistent footy for the last bit of the season and try to finish off the season with a bit of confidence going in next year.”
