CrownBet Match Preview: Round 24

Wests Tigers will look to build off last Sunday’s thrilling come-from-behind win over the Sea Eagles when they take on the Sydney Roosters this Saturday evening.

Down 20-6 at half-time, Ivan Cleary’s side displayed the newfound resilience existent within the team over the past two months to storm their way back in to the contest, eventually crossing for the match-winning try with 60 seconds left on the clock.

Of their past six games, Wests Tigers have now won three and been within six points with five minutes to go in the other three games, but will certainly need to take their performances to a new level this weekend when they take on a fired-up Roosters side.

Seemingly on course for a top four finish, the Tricolours come in to Saturday’s game off the back of consecutive losses to the Sea Eagles and Storm — a heartbreaking defeat to Melbourne at AAMI Park last week certainly leaving a bitter taste in the visitors’ mouth.

After battling away gamely all match, a field goal to Luke Keary put the visitors in front late in the contest, before a late try to the Storm ensured the home side emerged victorious. Off the back of that result, the Roosters have dropped to third on the competition ladder and are just two points ahead of the fifth-placed Parramatta Eels, with a tough away trip to Cronulla coming next week against the fourth-placed Sharks.

As such, Trent Robinson’s side will know the importance of Saturday’s game in a contest they are highly favoured to win. The Roosters have not lost to Wests Tigers since 2011, and hold an impressive 21-8 advantage over the joint venture in their 29 meetings.

Despite their ladder positions, however, credit must go to Wests Tigers, who have won the same number of games as the Roosters since their Round 14 game earlier this year.

Be there for our final Campbelltown game of season 2017 as we take on the North Queensland Cowboys on August 25!
