Match Preview: NRL Round 7 vs Panthers

Wests Tigers take on the Panthers at Carrington Park Bathurst in Round 7 of the NRL Telstra Premiership on Saturday.

Around the same time last year at the very same venue Wests Tigers toppled the mountain men in one of the upsets of the season, ending a seven-game losing streak in the process.

We head to Bathurst on the back of a bruising defeat to the Dolphins and a disappointing loss to the Dragons, with a new-look team that is intent on getting it right.

The Panthers are also coming off a last start loss, beaten by the Sea Eagles at Brookvale in Round 5, and then having the bye last weekend.

In team news it looks a much more balanced side for Wests Tigers with the return of vice-captain John Bateman (HIA), and rookie five-eighth Lachlan Galvin (suspension).

It’s a timely return also for Bent Naden, who will make his first NRL appearance since round 18 last season, against his former club.

Samuela Fainu and younger brother Latu also return to the side after being rested against the Dragons.

For the Panthers, Nathan Cleary remains sidelined with a hamstring injury with Brad Schneider again wearing the No.7 jersey alongside Jarome Luai, who picked up a minor knee injury in round 5.
