A dominant Western Suburbs Magpies recorded a convincing 54-4 win over Balmain in the Wests Tigers U17s development game at Campbelltown Sports Stadium today.


With the game being played over 2 x 25 minutes halves, Wests opened the scoring when prop Lukhan Tui used his strength to run through four defenders to score next to the posts. Lock Jack Miller failed to convert from close range for a 4-0 scoreline after six minutes.


The Magpies were in again a minute later when half-back Josh Bergamin scored behind the posts after support play by five-eighth Roman Ioelu and hooker Kade Yule. Miller converted the try for a 10-0 lead after eight minutes.


It became 14-0 when Jett Karam stepped his way to the tryline two minutes later. He converted from close range for a 16-0 lead.


Balmain allowed a towering crossfield bomb to bounce resulting in Wests full-back Veiru Mapesone to score in the left corner in the 15th minute. Karam failed to convert to leave Wests with a 20-0 lead.


Tui scored his second try when his size and pace proved too much for the Balmain defence out wide in the 20th minute. Miller converted to give Wests a commanding 26-0 lead at half-time.


2nd Half


Tui scored his third try of the game in the same way he scored his first two, his size being too big for the smaller Balmain forwards. Roman Ioelu converted the try for a 32-0 lead.


A break up the middle resulted in Wests full-back Manisela Teuhema scored under the posts for a 36-0 lead. Ioelu converted the try for a 38-0 lead with 17 minutes remaining.


Two minutes later, Balmain got on the board when Sean Woodhouse dived over in right corner for a 38-4 scoreline. Full-back Joshua Nohra failed to convert the try.


Wests went to a 42-4 lead with 13 minutes remaining when Jordie Reid dived over out wide. Lalotoa Mata'afa converted the try for a 44-4 lead.


The Magpies went to a 48-4 lead when Josh Tupuola-Leato finished of attacking raid to score out wide.I oelu converted the try for a 50-4 scoreline.


Tui finished off the tryscoring feast when he scored his fourth try through a powerful leg drive. Ioelu failed to convert the try for a 54-4 scoreline.


Wests Tigers player Mitchell Moses presented the Wests man of the match award to Lukhan Tui.


Wests Tigers player Luke Brooks presented the Balmain man of the match award to full-back Joshua Nohra.
