Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah is the new captain of the NSW Blues after Paul Gallen was ruled out today by team medical staff with an ankle injury.

Originally named vice captain, Farah will captain the Blues at ANZ Stadium next Wednesday night in the decider. It will be Farahs eighth Origin match for NSW.

Farah becomes the first Wests Tigers player to captain NSW.

With Gallen out, Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods will now start the match after being named in an extended squad.
