Wests Tigers NRL Head Coach Mick Potter has revealed the key inclusion of Liam Fulton in this week’s team to face the Newcastle Knights exclusively to Wests Tigers members ahead of the full team announcement later this afternoon.

Fulton has not played for the Club since suffering an injury against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Round 5 and will return to the starting lineup this week.

Currently in his 11th season of first-grade, Fulton’s return is a big boost to the Club’s forward pack as they prepare to take on a dangerous Newcastle Knights’ team at Hunter Stadium, with Potter saying that the inclusion of the 29-year-old is invaluable for the team.

“Liam is one of those unsung heroes in the team,” he said.

“He’s the player that does all the things that a lot of people don’t see.

“He doesn’t necessarily do all the flashy things but he does the things that matter to the team. Whether that’s the kick pressure or the extra tackle from dummy half or the cleaning up of the a linebreak… he’s the guy that does whatever needs to be done.

"He talks all the time and he’s one of our fittest players.

“One of Liam’s best attributes is that he constantly encourages people when they’re tired to keep going and doing the right thing.

“He encourages them to do more than they normally would under fatigue, and you can’t out a price on what it means to have those sort of guys in the team.

“You don’t need 17 of them, but you definitely need some.

“He’s invaluable to the team.”

Potter said that he anticipated a “Grand Final-like” atmosphere from the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium this Sunday afternoon, with the home side desperate to end their run of five consecutive defeats. Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 2:00pm AEST.
