Hitchcox focused on Canberra challenge
Two games in to his first-grade career, Wests Tigers fullback Jy Hitchcox says that he's focused on delivering a strong performance against the Canberra Raiders this week.
Hitchcox admitted that his first two NRL games — strong defeats to the Sydney Roosters and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs — obviously hadn't gone according to script for him personally, but said his full focus was on turning that around this Saturday night.
"To be honest, I'm not really sure if I have a set position at the moment," he said.
"I'm just enjoying being in first-grade and am happy to help wherever I can.
"I'm really looking forward to making amends [for the past few weeks] against Canberra this week, and don't want to let the fans down at all."
When the two sides met back in Round 16, it was the outside backs who dominated proceedings — scoring all six tries on the night as Wests Tigers emerged with a 19-18 victory. And while it's certainly shaping as another fascinating clash between the Club's outside backs and the likes of Anthony Milford and Jarrod Croker, Hitchcox emphasised that his focus — as well as that of the team's — was solely on their own performance.
"Me, personally, I'm not too worried in [thinking] about that," Hitchcox said.
"I've just got to focus on my game, and think the rest of the boys would benefit from doing the same. We've just got to knuckle down this week."
"We've got two weeks left and really need to make amends for a few things."
