Wests Tigers can provide the following injury update on centre Chance Peni after he suffered a serious jaw injury on Saturday, April 11 in the Club's VB NSW Cup match against the New Zealand Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium.

Peni fractured his jaw in two places during a tackle late in the match, and after regaining consciousness, was immediately taken to hospital in Auckland to be monitored. He returned to Sydney on Tuesday with Wests Tigers officials, and will have surgery tonight.

After witnessing the tackle and monitoring the serious injuries, Club Doctor Peter Lorentzos said the most relieving thing was that the injury was not as bad as first thought.

"Everything going well, he's looking at about a six-week layoff," said Lorentzos.

"Given the nature of the injury and what Chance was like on the field and afterwards, that's quite remarkable and we're very hopeful for a successful operation tonight.

"I've spoken to Chance several times a day since the injury and spent time with him in the hospital, and while he's obviously in some pain, he's not too uncomfortable, which is good. He's been very strong with it and has had a lot of support from all the players here."

Wests Tigers will provide a further update on Peni's injury and condition after his surgery.

There's NOTHING quite like a packed hill! Be there on Sunday, April 19 when we take on the Canberra Raiders at Leichhardt Oval!
