Wests Tigers centre Michael Chee Kam says he's hoping he's done enough throughout pre-season to secure a spot in the Club's Round 1 team this week.

Playing five first-grade games in 2016 following an off-season move from the Sea Eagles, Chee Kam said his goal throughout the pre-season, Auckland Nines and trial matches has all been around securing that Round 1 spot, with the former Sea Eagle eager to impress once again.

"Being there in Round 1 is everything I've been trying to work on," Chee Kam said.

"Trying to cement a spot [in Round 1] was my goal from last year for this year, and to stay there in that 17 each week and keep improving each week is what I'm really working for.

"I'm ready to hopefully get out there and blow some cobwebs out in Round 1!

"I think my defensive reads are something I've been working hard on," he said.

"JT has been playing me in the centres and when I'm in the back row, the defensive structures and things stay the same — the defence is what wins games so I'm working on that.

"I know the attack will come if I keep working on my defence."
