Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks says there's no drop off in motivation for his team despite the likelihood of missing the finals series with eight weeks reamining.

Brooks was one of his team's best in a 33-12 win over the Newcastle Knights prior to the Round 18 bye, and said that victory was an important step for his team to keep their spirits high.

"It was good to finally get that win," Brooks admitted.

"I think we'd forgotten how to win a bit so hopefully we can build a bit of momentum now.

"During those seven losses we were playing some good footy in patches — that game against Cronulla in particular was one we just should have won, so it's good to have that win."

While much of the external focus for Ivan Cleary's side has been about the impressive roster being built for 2018, Brooks said the focus was simply on finishing the 2017 season strong.

"You've always got to be motivated to play right now," he enthused.

"If you're not motivated, you shouldn't be playing.

"We've got eight weeks or so left and we want to win every game — it's as simple as that.

"It's hard to look too much to next year because it's going to be a completely different team next year, but I guess there is a chance for some of those young guys to get experience.

"Hopefully that can help us build going forward."
