Lantrak Man of the Match: Round 1

Lantrak presents the Man of the Match from Wests Tigers Round 1 clash against the Sydney Roosters: five-eighth Benji Marshall in his first game back for the club.

Playing his first game in Wests Tigers colours since his departure in 2013, Marshall was called in to the starting side at the last minute following a hamstring injury to Josh Reynolds.

And while the 33-year-old admitted it might have taken him a while to get in to the game, there was no doubting his experience and composure was key in getting Wests Tigers home on the night.

When Luke Brooks was sent to the sin-bin early in the second half, it was Marshall who controlled the game perfectly — winding the clock down on several occasions to frustrate the Roosters attack.

He came within a whisker of grabbing the first try of the afternoon when he touched down on an error from James Tedesco, and continued to pop up everywhere on the field when his team needed him.

Marshall had six runs for 66 metres, while also contributing 299 kick metres from his 12 kicks.
