It was a successful Magic Round weekend for Wests Tigers as Michael Maguire's side produced a blistering start to defeat the Penrith Panthers 30-4 on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium.

Wests Tigers were ruthless with their attack in the first half as they ran in five tries in 13 minutes to open up a commanding lead that they would never look back from.

With another good defensive effort to match their attack, Wests Tigers have moved to sixth on the Telstra Premiership ladder as they prepare to head down to Melbourne this week to race the red-hot Storm at AAMI Park on Thursday.

The weekend wasn't as good for the club's Jersey Flegg side, however, with a promising start undone by a strong South Sydney side in a 58-18 defeat.

The club's Canterbury Cup and Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership sides were both on the bye in Round 9 but will return to action this weekend.
