Strong trial form bodes well for junior representative season

Wests Tigers junior representative sides wrapped up their 2020 trial matches on the weekend with a cross-club match between Balmain and Western Suburbs in both junior competitions.

It was a relatively even tussle in the Harold Matthews (U/16's) game — dominated by the forward packs of both sides that would no doubt give the respective coaches plenty of confidence ahead of Round 1. In humid conditions, the game was played at a high quality and sets a strong platform for the season opener.

Similarly, the SG Ball (U/18's) clash between the two sides was a back-and-forth affair through the middle with Wests winning the early battle to score two quick tries.

After a strong win over the Rabbitohs the week before, Balmain responded and soon began to dominate the match, with a high completion rate and strong kicking game leading the way to another impressive performance from the Tigers.

Wests Tigers Tarsha Gale side rounded on the night with another tight contest — ending their trial against Canterbury-Bankstown in a draw.

The club's junior representative sides will all now enjoy a weekend off before returning to action in their respective season openers on Saturday, February 8.
