A win and a loss for Wests Tigers’ junior representative teams in their Elimination Finals this morning.
HARVEY NORMAN TARSHA GALE CUP ELIMINATION FINAL - WOMEN’S U/19’s
Wests Tigers 8 - 4 Illawarra Steelers
Ringrose Park, Wentworthville
After a crucial win last week, Wests Tigers’ Tarsha Gale Cup U/19’s side produced a tremendous result in their Elimination Final this morning, coming up with the victory over Illawarra to progress to the Preliminary Finals!
The return of lock forward and captain Eliza Siilata was an enormous boost, with her leadership skills proving crucial in the hard-fought 8-4 victory.
After conceding an early try, a fight-back ensued, with Maraia Rorocla and Imogen Gobran crossing and the Tigers holding on for the remaining 25 minutes of the contest.
Congratulations girls on this huge result and we look forward to their Preliminary Final against the Minor Premiership-winning Indigenous Academy next week!
SG BALL CUP ELIMINATION FINAL - U/19’s
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 16 - 14 Balmain Tigers
St Marys Leagues Stadium, North St Marys
Balmain’s SG Ball Cup U/19’s outfit went down to Canterbury-Bankstown in a heartbreaking defeat on Friday in their Elimination Final.
The Tigers led early, with a Jonathan Ibrahim short ball allowing Leo Nasio to cross out wide and an Emmanuel Di Bartolo cut-out pass sending Joseph Delle over in the left corner.
After the Bulldogs struck back to lead, a barnstorming run from Delle down the short-side led to him crashing over for his second.
Down by two, the Tigers fought hard to score a late try, with Di Bartolo especially influential in trying to create chances for Balmain.
Unfortunately, it was not to be, with Balmain’s season coming to an end, albeit not without some clear standouts, such as Delle and Di Bartolo who will be worth keeping a close eye on into the future.
