Match Report: Jersey Flegg Cup Round 21

Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup side has sent a warning shot to the rest of the competition, scoring a 24-12 win over Penrith and entering the top four.

Coming up against the third-placed Panthers away from home, the result was arguably Wests Tigers’ most crucial to date in regards to cementing their premiership credentials.

Teenage centre Sione Vaihu got the visitors off to a fast start before the scores were levelled through Penrith second-rower Zac Lipowicz.

From there, hooker Michael Tannous furthered his impressive try-scoring run, touching down in a third consecutive game and for his eighth four-pointer in eleven starting appearances this season.

Five-eighth James Valevatu crossed shortly before the half-time break to give Wests Tigers a 12-point lead heading into the second stanza.

In a tight second period, Penrith brought the margin to within six when centre Samuel Lane scored, before opposing three-quarter Livai Saukuru secured a Wests Tigers victory on the stroke of full-time.
