Match Report: NSW Cup Round 21

Western Suburbs Magpies went down on Saturday afternoon, succumbing to a 56-6 defeat to Penrith away from home.

The Magpies produced an outstanding team try to kick off the afternoon’s scoring, with a James Roberts kick downfield proving inch-perfect for Jacob Liddle to touchdown just before the dead-ball line.

However, Penrith hit back shortly after with three quick-fire tries; second-rower Preston Riki crashing over on the right edge, Daeon Amituanai finishing off a slick backline shift on the left and centre Thomas Jenkins busting through the defence to score.

A short ball to Mavrik Geyer extended the home side’s lead to 18 points, the Panthers up 24-6 at half-time.

It was all Penrith in the second half, with Amituanai completing his hat-trick, Isaiah Iongi scoring a double and centre Thomas Jenkins (arguably best-on-ground) crossing for his second four-pointer of the afternoon.

Teenage five-eighth Jack Cole scored two minutes from full-time to cap off the scoring at 56 points to 6.
