Match Report: Round 5 vs Broncos

Wests Tigers have succumbed to a 46-12 loss to Brisbane Broncos in Round 5 at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane’s second-row pairing of Jordan Riki and Kurt Capewell both crossed for four-pointers to open the first half, giving the home side a handy, early lead.

After 20 minutes Payne Haas bullocked his way over from dummy half to score the Broncos’ third try of the night before Selwyn Cobbo picked up a loose ball and raced almost the length of the field on the half hour mark.

A Reece Walsh grubber kick allowed Riki to plant the ball down for his second try, giving the home side a 28-0 lead at the break.

Wests Tigers started fast in the second half, with Isaiah Papali’i cleanly gathering a Brandon Wakeham kick to grab his first try in black, white and orange.

Brisbane’s try-scoring raid continued, however, with centres Herbie Farnworth and Kotoni Staggs stretching Brisbane’s lead to 34 points.

Sixty-three minutes in, Jake Simpkin darted over from dummy half to collect the visitors’ second try of the evening.

Staggs scored a second try with two minutes remaining which was converted by Adam Reynolds, to put a full stop on a tough night at Suncorp Stadium.

Next up for Wests Tigers is Parramatta Eels on Easter Monday at Accor Stadium.
