Match Report: NSW Cup Round 8 vs Blacktown Workers

Western Suburbs Magpies have scored their fourth win of the NSW Cup season, coming away with a 24-16 victory over Blacktown in Round 8.

Blacktown posted first points through Ben Condon, with the big forward spinning over under the posts to give the Sea Eagles a 6-0 lead early on.

A Will Smith inside ball allowed Justin Matamua to bust through in the 13th minute, with the forward’s tackle-busting run to the line putting the Magpies on the scoresheet.

Shortly after, Daine Laurie’s break through the middle of the field led to young forward Brandon Mansfield collecting his second try in Western Suburbs colours on the next play.

Blacktown scored through Clayton Faulalo after 29 minutes, but a penalty goal on the stroke of half-time meant Wests entered the second stanza up 14 points to 10.

Jamie Humphreys put Fletcher Myers over to open the second half scoring, but Shawn Blore’s powerful effort reestablished the Wests lead, with the Magpies up by four with 15 minutes remaining.

Mansfield grabbed a second four-pointer out of dummy half to seal the result for Western Suburbs, with the big back-rower putting together a quality game on the edge.
