Match Report: NSW Cup Round 14 vs Raiders

The Magpies have scored their sixth win of the NSW Cup season after coming away with a 26-18 win over the Raiders at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday.

In a game which featured numerous players with significant NRL experience, the away side posted first points, through former New Zealand international Danny Levi.

After a recent run of appearances from the interchange bench, Brandon Mansfield was given the opportunity to start the match in the second row, and his inclusion was vindicated via a 16th minute try.

Next to cross was the sharp Manaia Cherrington, who has impressed since returning to the Wests Tigers system in recent weeks.

Xavier Savage grabbed his fifth try of the NSW Cup season shortly after, with Brad Schneider’s conversion making it a 14-12 halftime score in favour of the travelling Raiders.

Wests bagged the crucial first try after the break through fullback Daine Laurie, and the 23-year-old bagged a second after 59 minutes to extend the Magpies lead.

Exciting young hooker Tallyn Da Silva made his way onto the field with 15 minutes remaining, with the 18-year-old playing out the remainder of the match in his NSW Cup debut.

A late try to Savage wasn’t enough for Canberra to make their way back into the contest, with Western Suburbs emerging victorious, 26-18.
