Match Report: Round 18 vs Cowboys

Wests Tigers have suffered an emphatic 74-0 defeat to the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.

The Cowboys scored 42 unanswered points in the first half and added five tries in the second forty to condemn Wests Tigers to the largest defeat in club history.

The first try was scored by Tom Dearden, who threw a dummy and slipped through the line following a break from Coen Hess.

Semi Valemei then capitalised on a Junior Tupou error to score before Luciano Leilua extended the hosts’ lead to eighteen points.

Scott Drinkwater added two tries of his own, but the visitors’ nightmare soon worsened when Alex Twal was sent to the sin bin for a hip drop tackle.

The Cowboys’ left-edge took full advantage, with Murray Taulagi and Valentine Holmes running in a pair of four-pointers before half-time.

The onslaught continued after the break with Semi Valemei, Valentine Holmes and Murray Taulagi all completing their doubles.

Taulagi then added another before Jeremiah Nanai and Jordan McLean joined the list of try scorers in the final fifteen minutes.

Wests Tigers will now return to Sydney to face the Cronulla Sharks on Thursday night.
