Match Report: NSW Cup Round 22 vs Rabbitohs

Western Suburbs Magpies have fallen to a 36-18 defeat to South Sydney at Lidcombe Oval in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup.

Souths scored two early tries through Tom Carr and Izaac Thompson, before the Magpies hit back with their first score of the afternoon.

A Tommy Talau intercept led to Triston Reilly scoring off a Zane Camroux grubber at the end of the ensuing set.

After 34 minutes, AJ Kepaoa produced an acrobatic leap in the left corner to bring Wests within two points at half-time.

Jacob Gagai scored at the end of a quality offloading move from Souths, and a Magpies fumble in-goal led to the Souths centre planting the ball down for a second just four minutes later.

Rabbitohs skipper Dean Hawkins grabbed a try shortly after, before Kepaoa intercepted a wayward pass and ran 50m to score the Magpies’ third.

After Dion Teaupa scored the Rabbitohs’ sixth try of the afternoon, Triston Reilly’s smooth movement allowed him to grab his twelfth four-pointer of the NSW Cup season.

A Matt French try and Dean Hawkins conversion were the final points of the afternoon, with South Sydney emerging victorious, 36-18.
