Match Report: NSW Cup Round 26 vs Roosters

Western Suburbs Magpies have wrapped up their season with a victory, coming away with a 44-32 win over the Roosters at Wentworth Park on Sunday afternoon.

Wests made their intentions known early when they scored after just one minute, through powerful winger Sione Hopoate.

The Roosters hit back with three unanswered tries to put the Magpies on notice, however Wests took control for the remainder of the half.

James Valevatu scored his first try since returning from a lengthy stint in the injury ward, before outside backs Jay Kirk and Semisi Kioa crossed for the Magpies.

Kirk has been in electric try-scoring form in 2023, with today’s four-pointer adding to his 14 tries at Jersey Flegg Cup level, this season.

Tommy Talau scored after 37 minutes, with Brandon Wakeham’s conversion making it 26-22 in favour of Wests at half-time.

Jack Boyling kicked off the second-half try-scoring to give the Magpies some breathing space and they weren’t to be run down.

Kioa collected his double, before James Roumanos grabbed his first try of the season to wrap up the scoring for Wests.

Roumanos added the extras for his own try, with a late score and conversion from Roosters winger Jade Anderson adding the full stop on a 44-32 victory to the Magpies.
