Match Report: NRLW Round 8 vs Broncos

Wests Tigers have suffered a narrow 22-18 loss to Brisbane Broncos at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle in Round 8 of the NRLW.

The Broncos were denied first points by the video referee, before a crash play on the line finally cracked Wests Tigers goal line defence as Chelsea Lenarduzzi scored the opening try.

Brisbane mounted continuous sets on Wests Tigers’ line but the ‘home side’ withstood the pressure and were rewarded with a try to Jakiya Whitfeld just before the break, to trial 6-4 at half time.

Wests Tigers continued to hold the momentum early in the second half.  A 60 metre break upfield by Rikeya Horne presented Kezie Apps with the first try of the second half, before Salma Nour darted over from dummy half to extend the lead to 16-6.

Despite having a player sent to the sin bin, Brisbane hit back to score the first of three unanswered tries when Brianna Clark found the line.

Sprawled Tigers defence then created an opening for dummy half Destiny Brill to level the contest from close range before a right edge shift to Shenae Ciesiolka handed Wests Tigers a 22-18 defeat.

Wests Tigers return home to Campbelltown Stadium next Thursday against Newcastle Knights for the final match of the 2023 NRLW season.
