Wests Tigers is delighted to continue its community partnership with Mater Dei, as we enter the new school year, and eagerly await the new footy season.

Based in Camden, Mater Dei is a highly specialised institution dedicated to providing unique opportunities for children, students, and young adults with disabilities.

As we have done in previous years, Wests Tigers again celebrated ‘International Day of People with Disability’ implementing the ‘Train like a Tiger’ program at Mater Dei's School and Nextpath programs at the back end of 2023.

This fun-filled event focused on acknowledging the abilities of Mater Dei students and young adults rather than focusing on their disabilities.

Wests Tigers Community lead, Kenneth Tuala, says the greatest game of all, and his club, are very well received by school.

"This is another example of how Rugby League can help convey positive messages, reinforcing the idea that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can contribute and excel in various aspects of life,” Tuala said.

Director of Development at Mater Dei, Sarah Ryan says the ongoing partnership with Wests Tigers is crucial.

We’re all about sharing the joy and showing the ‘ability’ rather than focussing on the ‘disability’

“The more that people are exposed to that the better for everyone because you get to see just how amazing these young people are.

“All of us at Mater Dei are so grateful for what Wests Tigers have done and continue to do.”
