Report: Jersey Flegg Round 10 vs Panthers

The Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg side has fallen to a 40-20 defeat to the Panthers away from home in Round 10.

The home side rocketed out to an early lead at Parker Street Reserve, Penrith and the visiting Tigers weren’t able to run them down despite an improved second half.

Tries to Josh Ruxton, Jenson Tuaoi and Zakauri Clarke made it 18-0 to the home side after just 15 minutes, with Wests Tigers struggling to assert themselves into the contest early on.

After Demiah Ainuu extended the Panthers lead, the Tigers did manage to hit back through centre Solomone Saukuru. Some quality ball-playing from Max Liles put the big centre straight through a hole to grab Wests Tigers’ first of the night.

Bayden Moran’s try made it 28-6 to Penrith at half-time, however, Cameron Kanaan struck after half-time to bring the away side back into the match. The fullback pounced on a Levi Conti grubber kick to continue his impressive form in recent weeks.

Clarke and Ruxton then went on to grab their respective second tries each for Penrith to effectively put the result to bed.

Two teenage talents did manage to grab tries for Wests Tigers late on, as Jared Haywood’s deflected grubber kick produced points, while Wests SG Ball graduate Jack Nicholas scored in the corner on his U/21’s debut.

Panthers 40 (Ruxton 2, Clarke 2, Tuaoi, Ainuu, Moran tries; Clarke 6/7 goals) defeated Wests Tigers 20 (Saukuru, Kanaan, Haywood, Nicholas tries; Craig 2/4 goals) at Parker Street Reserve.
