Impressive young Wests Tigers back-rower Tony Sukkar is certainly making the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
The 22-year-old is in his third season at Wests Tigers after enjoying a breakout season in 2025 that culminated in Sukkar collecting the Club’s NRL Rookie of the Year award.
With 16 NRL games behind him heading into 2026, the talented forward has become a shining light in his four games in the Wests Tigers pack this season.
And in his most recent game, his 20th in the Tigers jersey, Sukkar achieved what every young footballer dreams of growing up – scoring his first try in the NRL.
It came last Sunday against the Knights, when Sukkar carried several defenders over the line off a lovely short ball from Adam Doueihi to score the Tigers lone try.
For the man himself, and Sukkar’s family, it was a moment that will be forever cherished.
With established second-rowers Samuela Fainu and Kai Pearce-Paul injured in recent weeks – combined with some good form in the NSW Cup for Wests – has seen Sukkar start in the Tigers last two games.
“I put it down to just having the confidence to go into every week and being able to do my job to the best of my ability,’’ Sukkar said.
The confidence comes with training and preparing well for the game

“Just having that each week has really helped me to put my best foot forward.”
Respected Tigers forward and popular clubman, Alex Twal, praised Sukkar for his strong work ethic.
“I'm happy for him. Tony has taken his opportunity with both hands,'' Twal said.
"I really love playing with Tony. I was happy for him (to get that try) on the weekend.
“I thought it was one of his best games in a Tigers jersey.
“(On) days off, he comes in to do extra training. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”
