This Wednesday, 15 July, the next generation of Wests Tigers talent will take centre stage at Leichhardt Oval for the Club's annual Wests Tigers Challenge.
Beginning at 11.00am, the all-day event will bring together players from the Club's three pathways catchments (Balmain Tigers, Macarthur Wests Tigers and Group 6) across the U13, U14 and U15 age groups, before concluding with the U16s Challenge match at 7.00pm.
The Challenge gives players from the Club's RISE Winter Development Program the opportunity to test themselves against fellow Pathways athletes and experience game day at one of rugby league's most iconic venues.
For Wests Tigers Pathways Coordinater Brad Speechley, the day has become about much more than just matches.
"We try to make it as big as possible because it's a chance to showcase our Pathways, bring all our catchments together and celebrate the young players coming through our system,'' Speechley said.
"For many of these players, it's one of their first chances to play at Leichhardt Oval, experience the facilities and get a feel for what it's like to be part of a professional program."
The highlight of the day will be the Wests Tigers U16 Cubs trial match, showcasing familiar names to Pathways followers.
This includes players from the Club’s championship-winning Andrew Johns Cup and Under 16 Development programs, all competing for spots in this year's Chris Lawrence U16s Cubs side that will travel to Ballina to take on the Titans.
Speechley believes the U16s contest offers supporters an early glimpse at the Club's next wave of representative talent.
"The Under 16s will be a really exciting match to watch," he said.
"These are players who have come through our Andrew Johns Cup and development programs and are now pushing for selection for our Chris Lawrence side’s trip to Ballina. The Challenge is another important step in that journey."
The day will also feature the Club's Junior Representative Presentation, recognising the achievements of players across the 2026 representative season.
With free entry, families, friends and rugby league supporters are encouraged to attend and enjoy a full schedule of football, along with activities such as passing games and junior league relay races.
"It's a great day for our players and their families," Speechley said.
"We've got some really good football on show, our junior presentations in the evening, and plenty happening around the ground. We'd love to see the Wests Tigers community come out and support the next generation of players."
