Wests Tigers Pathways sides recorded mixed results across two venues over the weekend, with the NSW Cup team recording a victory to keep their finals hopes alive.
KOE NSW Cup vs Bulldogs: 36-30 win
Western Suburbs Magpies sit one point outside the top five in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup following a nail-biting win over the Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground.
In an incredible performance, Magpies players Solomone Saukuru, Junior Tupou and Heath Mason all scored two tries each.
Tino Tavana scored Wests' other try in their seven tries to five victory.
Saukuru grabbed the opening try in the fourth minute when he finished off a left-side play to push off the full-back to cross for a 6-0 lead.
After conceding two tries to the Bulldogs to trail 12-0, the Magpies drew level when Tupou got his first try in the 21st minute off a great cut-out pass from five-eighth Javon Andrews.
Saukuru crossed for his second three minutes later for a 16-12 lead after Tony Sukkar and Andrews combined to send the big Fijian to the line.
Mason then scored his first when he pulled in a Madden chip kick to score. His second try, four minutes later, saw the Magpies take a 28-12 lead into half-time after the full-back swooped on a Tupou kick to go back-to-back.
Tavana extended the lead to 32-12 eight minutes after the break when he dived over from another superb cut-out ball from Andrews.
The Bulldogs then pulled one back before Tupou picked up a low pass from Andrews to show strength and determination to cross in the corner for a 36-18 lead after 67 minutes.
The home side sent a scare into the Magpies camp with two tries to get back to 36-30, but Western Suburbs dug deep to claim a vital victory.
The Magpies now sit on 24 points, one behind the Bulldogs, with six rounds remaining before the finals.
Western Suburbs play Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium, Canberra, on Saturday at 5.15pm following the NRL match.
Jersey Flegg: 38-12 loss
Wests Tigers suffered a 38-12 loss to the Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday in Round 20.
The Bulldogs ran in nine tries to two with Glassie Glassie and Jack Attard scoring second half tries for the Tigers after trailing 16-0 at half-time.
Glassie showed tremendous vision and skill to slice his way through several defenders to score off a loose pass.
Trailing 38-6, Attard then stepped his way to the line from close range in the dying minutes.
The loss leaves Wests Tigers outside the top five in sixth spot on points differential.
Wests Tigers now play Canberra Raiders at Raiders Belconnen, Canberra, on Saturday at 12.30pm.
NSW Women’s Premiership: 22-22 draw
Wests Tigers recorded a hard fought 22-all draw with competition leaders Penrith Panthers at CommBank Stadium on Thursday night.
A kick from Amirah El-Abdallah deflected off the posts for hooker Leah Ollerton to score for a 6-0 lead after 10 minutes.
A cut-out pass from Breeze E’e saw Tia-Jordyn Vasilovski go over in the corner to extend the lead.
The Tigers let in two quick tries but closed out the first half with a Dawn Tui run from dummy-half, putting Bullman in an easy position to convert for a 16-8 lead at half-time.
The Panthers then narrowed the margin to two with a converted try before El-Abdallah set up another try for Saige Tautalafua.
However, two late tries to the Panthers saw the scores level with five minutes left with either side unable to break the deadlock.
The ninth placed Wests Tigers now play Cronulla at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday at 1pm.
