Stern test for Magpies against Bears in NSW Cup

Western Suburbs Magpies will get a good indication of where they are at in The Knock On Effect NSW Cup at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, 9th August.

The eighth-placed Magpies tackle the second placed Bears in a crucial clash with Western Suburbs two points adrift of the top five with four rounds remaining.

It will be the second time the two teams have met this season, with the Bears claiming a 26-16 victory at Lidcombe Oval in the Magpies’ opening game in round two.

The Magpies head into the game in good form after beating Parramatta Eels 50-24 at Lidcombe Oval last Sunday with half-back Javon Andrews a standout.

Fresh from an NRL debut the week before Wests Tigers, Andrews finished with a try, seven goals from nine attempts and a haul of 18 points.

He was well supported by centre Solomone Saukuru, who crossed for his 20th try of the season as the Magpies’ left edge caused havoc once again.

Following the Bears match, the Magpies face the Dragons (11th), Roosters (ninth) and Souths (fifth) in the run home.

Fortunately, the Magpies also have the third best points differential record behind the Panthers and the Bears.
