Pathways Weekend Wrap: Jersey Flegg win at Lidcombe Oval

It was a mixed weekend across the Wests Tigers Pathways as the Club's Jersey Flegg Cup side were the only team to walk away with a victory.

Jersey Flegg Cup vs St George Illawarra Dragons: 42-36 win

Trailing 12-0 after 20 minutes, Wests Tigers showed great character to claw their way back to lead 20-12 at half-time.

Second-rower Mitchell Taotua struck first from a good backline shift before hooker Jeriko Talisau powered through four Dragons defenders to make the scores level.

Ryder Huth then combined with Christian Taupau-Moors to score before a penalty goal saw the Tigers take an eight-point lead into the break.

The second half started superbly for the Tigers through quick tries to Glassie Glassie and Heith Pritchard.

Huth then produced some individual brilliance when he kicked for himself to regather mid-air to score his try.

Powerful forward Kit Laulilii then spun his way over the line for a 42-12 lead.

The Tigers fell asleep defensively in the final 13 minutes with the Dragons piling on on 24 unanswered points for a 42-36 scoreline.

Wests Tigers will continue their quest for the finals against the Sydney Roosters at Wentworth Park on Sunday, 23 August, at 12.30pm.

The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup vs St George Dragons: 36-24 loss

The brave run of the Western Suburbs Magpies to make the NSW Cup finals came to an end at Lidcombe Oval on Sunday.

The Magpies needed to win their last three remaining matches but fell short against the Dragons to leave them six points outside of the top five with two rounds remaining.

Winger Heamasi Makasini crossed for four of the Magpies’ five tries in the defeat to the Dragons.

The Dragons led 24-12 at half-time with Makasini grabbing two tries in the first 40 minutes.

Fellow winger Jeral Skelton also scored for the Magpies.

Western Suburbs now play the Sydney Roosters at Wentworth Park on Sunday, 23 August, at 2.45pm.

NSW Women’s Premiership vs Steelers: 24-20 loss

A late fightback from the Steelers saw the Wests Tigers go down in a tight struggle at Collegians Sporting Complex, Wollongong, on Saturday.

The Tigers scored five tries to four but goal-kicking cost the visitors dearly with no tries converted.

Talented Wests Tigers winger Tia-Jordyn Vasilovski crossed for two tries with Vasaliva Feleti, Litia Fusi and Saige Tautalafua also finding the line.

The loss leaves the Tigers in ninth place, three points out of the top five with two rounds remaining.

The Tigers must beat the fourth-placed Mounties at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday, 22 August, at 12pm to keep their finals hopes alive.
