Wests Tigers re-sign centre Solomone Saukuru

Wests Tigers have secured the services of one of the game’s most exciting young centres in Solomone Saukuru for the next two years.

Saukuru has been a shining light for the Tigers since making his NRL debut against St George-Illawarra in Round 24 this season.

The 21-year-old scored four tries in four games for the Tigers, including a double on debut.

Prior to his NRL debut, Saukuru also crossed for 20 tries in 19 games for the Western Suburbs Magpies in the NSW Cup.

“I’m excited to be staying here at Wests Tigers, a club that means so much to me,’’ Saukura said.

“To be able to come through the Wests Tigers Pathways system and then make my NRL debut for the club is something that I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’m really enjoying playing under Coach Benji Marshall and look forward to further developing my skills here.”

Wests Tigers Head Coach Benji Marshall said Saukuru deserved his new contract as part of the Top 30 squad after an impressive start to his NRL career.

“Sol is a very talented young player who has worked very hard to earn his opportunity,” Marshall said.

“He’s still only at the beginning of his NRL career, so there’s plenty of hard work ahead. We’re looking forward to continuing to develop his game and helping him reach his potential.

“We’re really pleased to have Sol and his family here with us for at least another two years.”
