Vale Paul Langmack

The Wests Tigers are deeply saddened by the passing of former Western Suburbs Magpies captain Paul Langmack, aged 61.

A much-loved figure in rugby league, Langmack joined the Magpies in 1991, having won three premierships with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Over eight seasons with Western Suburbs, he played 137 first-grade games and scored 18 tries, becoming a fan favourite for his tireless work rate, energy and strong leadership.

‘Langers’ captained the Magpies, including under the late Head Coach and Magpies legend Tommy Raudonikis.

Langmack’s leadership was recognised in the 1995 season, when he was named Dally M Captain of the Year.

Langmack also represented NSW in four State of Origin matches and was a member of the undefeated 1986 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France, playing 10 tour matches for Australia.

After retiring in 1999, Langmack served as an assistant coach at the Wests Tigers before becoming Head Coach of South Sydney.

Wests Tigers CEO, Shaun Mielekamp extended his deepest sympathies to the Langmack family.

“Paul was a much-loved figure in rugby league and while his impact was seen and felt across many clubs, he has always been synonymous with the Western Suburbs Magpies,” Mielekamp said.

“The endearing images of him from his playing days make up part of the rich fabric of our joint venture club and form part of what will be a lasting legacy here at the Wests Tigers.

“On behalf of the entire Club, I’d like to extend our sincere condolences to Paul’s family, friends and former teammates.”
