Wests Tigers recorded a convincing 46-8 NSW Cup trial win over Newtown Jets at Allianz Stadium tonight.

In a dominant performance by Coach Paul Fletcher's men, the Wests Tigers forward pack laid the foundation early. It allowed centre Rory Brien to capitalise with four tries while winger Taqele Naiyaravoro grabbed a double.

The Jets opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when winger Paul Rokolati dived over in the corner after the ball was spread left through half Ben Jones and centre Ivan Penehe. The try was not converted to leave the Jets with a 4-0 lead.

Wests Tigers centre Rory Brien continued his tryscoring feats of recent weeks when he crashed over in the corner after a good cut out pass by full-back James Tedesco to winger David Nofoaluma saw the ball go back inside for Brien. He has now scored a try in each of the three trial games.

Five-eighth Sean Meaney converted the try to give Wests Tigers a 6-4 lead after 32 minutes.

Two minutes later, a floating cut out pass by Meaney put Brien into open space to stroll over from 10 metres out for a 10-4 lead. Meaney converted the try to give Wests Tigers a 12-4 lead after 36 minutes.

A bullocking run and a great one arm offload from a penalty tap by second-rower Sauaso Sue saw hooker Joel Luani dive over for a try in the 39th minute. Meaney converted the try to give Wests Tigers an 18-4 lead at half-time.

2nd half

A short kick in behind the line by half-back Luke Brooks in the 47th minute saw Brien dive on the ball for his third try of the game. Meaney converted the try for a 24-4 lead.

A minute later, Tedesco ran into a gap before crashing through two defenders to score out wide. Meaney converted the try for a 30-4 lead after 50 minutes.

Brien got his fourth try when he crossed in the right corner in the 52nd minute after Nofoaluma defused a crossfield kick to offload to Brien in a two man tackle just metres from the sideline for a 34-4 lead. Meaney converted the try for a 36-4 lead.

Naiyaravoro showed good acceleration to touch down inside the corner post in the 62nd minute. Meaney converted for a 40-4.

Naiyaravoro proved too big and strong when he scored his second try in the 69th minute. Meaney converted for a 46-4 lead.

Newtown crossed for a late try through Mitchell Stevens. The try was not converted.
