Wests Tigers recorded a 28-16 victory over North Queensland Cowboys tonight at Leichhardt Oval in round 11 of the NYC competition.


Two tries from debutant Rhys Armstrong helped the home side secure two valuable competition points to move into sixth position subject to weekend results.


The Cowboys opened the scoring in the 10th minute when full-back Zac Santo spun out of a tackle to score out wide. Five-eighth Mitchell Grimes converted for a 6-0 lead.


Wests Tigers opened their account when full-back Kurtis Rowe cleaned up a spilt bomb to score in the left corner. The try was converted by five-eighth Manaia Rudolph for a 6-all scoreline after 22 minutes.


The home side went to a 10-6 lead in the 34th minute when Andrew Kazzi burrowed over from dummy half. Rudolph converted from close range to give Wests Tigers a 12-6 lead.


Wests Tigers were in again two minutes later when a crossfield bomb was taken by winger Paul Simona who offloaded a one handed pass for debutant Rhys Armstrong to score for a 16-6 lead. Rudolph failed to convert the try.


2nd Half

A short ball from Rudolph put lock Brenden Santi over for a try in the 48th minute for a 20-6 lead. Rudolph converted for a 22-6 lead.


The Cowboys hit back when Sam Foster put Hayden Crowley over for try. The try was not converted for a 22-10 scoreline.


The visitors got back to 22-14 when Samsen ONeill scored after a 30 metre run down the sideline in the 59th minute. The try was converted for a 22-16 scoreline.


A strong bullocking run by Armstrong saw him brush off a few defenders to score his second try to give Wests Tigers a 26-16 lead after 67 minutes. Rudolph converted for a 28-16 scoreline.
