Paul Fletcher could never be accused of not being a thinking mans coach.

With Concord Oval and the adjacent St Lukes fields closed due to heavy rain in recent days, Fletcher wasnt left with much alternative when he wanted to put his NSW Cup team through their paces this afternoon.

Having already being restricted to indoor skills work on Tuesday, Fletcher was desperate to find some patch of grass for his players to train on.

He found his patch but as the jovial coach himself explained, youve got to do what youve got to do.

Fletch's turf area was a narrow piece of grass behind the Concord Oval car park fronting busy Parramatta Road.

For motorists stuck at the traffic lights, it was a rare glimpse of watching the Wests Tigers NSW Cup team train for Saturdays match against Newcastle at Leichhardt Oval.

Perhaps train is not exactly the right word...it was more of a case of watching the players do some light skills work and speed drills .

The NSW Cup team were that close to Parramatta Road Fletcher could have pressed the pedestrian button himself to change the colour of the lights. Petrol at the 7- Eleven store across the road was priced at $1.41 a litre. The Slurpee offer also looked good value for thirsty players.

I know it is not ideal boys but at least it is something. It is about overcoming adversity and being the best we can, Fletcher told his players.

So lets just do some light work and focus on our marker plays.

And whatever we do, dont let a ball go over the fence. We may not get it back.
