Wests Tigers recorded a 32-18 victory over the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium tonight in round 23 of the Holden Cup.


The win moves Wests Tigers to 30 competition points and within shot of a top four finish.


Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the third minute when prop Nathan Brown dived under the posts for a 4-0 lead. Centre Manaia Rudolph converted the try for a 6-0 scoreline.


Two minutes later, Rudolph stretched the lead to 10-0 when he ran off a pass from five-eighth Mitchell Moses to get on the outside of Roosters lock and captain Rhyse Martin to score in the corner. He converted his own try for a 12-0 lead after eight minutes.


It became 16-0 when a grubber kick from half-back Luke Brooks saw Moses score under the posts. Rudolph converted for an 18-0 lead.


Brooks then got in on the tryscoring action himself when he backed a break down the left edge to score behind the posts. Rudolph converted for a 24-0 lead after 20 minutes.


The Roosters hit back with two quick tries to Mitch Mamary and half-back Tyler Cornish. Centre Brendan Elliot converted one of the tries to leave the Roosters trailing 24-10 after 30 minutes.


A try to Roosters forward Breaden Uele next to the posts in the 37th minute saw the visitors trail 24-14. Elliot failed to convert the try.


2nd Half

The Roosters got back to trail 24-18 when Martin scored in the 50th minute.

Wests Tigers went to a 28-18 lead when full-back Kurtis Rowe backed up a break by forward Andrew Kazzi to score in the 70th minute. Rudolph converted the try for a 30-18 lead.


Rudolph converted a penalty goal late in the game for the 32-18 scoreline.
