The third release of the 2014 top 33-man squad features the back rowers and locks, with Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter giving an insight into the season ahead.

While Dene Halatau may be a recruit for the 2014 season, Wests Tigers fans will be very familiar with the utility returning to the Club after spending three seasons at the Canterbury Bulldogs. Halatau can play a number of positions and will be an asset not only on the field but also off it, as a mentor for the younger squad members.

The other addition to the back row roster is Cory Paterson, who comes to the Club after a one-year stint with Super League Club Hull KR. During his time at the Rovers, Paterson crossed the line seven times in 15 games. The former Cowboy and Knight is also a handy goal kicker.

The starting back row will have a number of contenders, provided the squad is fully fit. The reliable Liam Fulton will be in the mix once more with youngsters Ben Murdoch-Masila, Curtis Sironen and Sauaso Sue fighting it out with Bodene Thompson for limited positions in the squad.

Mick Potters talks back row/locks for the 2014 season:

We have brought in Dene Halatau and Cory Paterson who adds a fair bit of strike to us on the edges. We have also brought up young Kyle Lovett who adds strike and a good depth to the squad. We are looking pretty good in the back row; weve got the solidness of Liam Fulton and dynamic players such as Ben Murdoch-Masila and Curtis Sironen. Sauaso Sue can poke his nose in that group too," Potter said.

For those that dont know much about Andrew Vela, he is in a similar mould to Ben Murdoch-Masila. He is dynamic, runs a very good line and is hard to tackle. Unfortunately he has been hampered by injuries in the last couple of years and this is his year to step up and show what he has got. Im looking forward to seeing him make an impact, he will start the year in State Cup and we will see how he progresses from there.

Stay tuned for the final announcement which features the props in the 2014 squad.
