Wests Tigers Coach Jason Taylor has praised his side's defensive effort following a 20-4 win over the Parramatta Eels in their Alice Springs trial match.

Having kept the Eels scoreless for over 70 minutes before Fabian Goodall crossed out wide in the final moments of the match, Taylor said his side will take plenty of confidence from their defensive resolve heading into next week's trial against Cronulla.

"All up, it was a good performance from the boys tonight," he said.

"The boys were happy with it and I was happy with it as well.

"The big thing was that we worked to play the way that we’ve trained, and that’s what we did tonight and that will give the guys some real confidence.

"The boys did well in defence. It’s something that we are working on and it was a good result in that regard given how much attacking Parramatta did on the night.

"The boys will really take some confidence from this one — confidence in that what we’re working on at training is effective [and] if we do it well, we’ll get some results."
