Traveling back up the F3 for the first time since leaving the Newcastle Knights in 2013, Wests Tigers winger Kevin Naiqama says he's looking forward to facing his old team again when the the two sides meet this Sunday at Hunter Stadium.

The Fijian international debuted for the Knights back in 2010, before scoring nine tries in 15 games, but departed the Hunter region at the end of 2013.

And while he's still close friends with the likes of Akiula Uate, Naiqama is more than ready to take his game to another level when he takes the field in Newcastle once more.

"I grew up with Akiula in Newcastle, and we're still close friends," he said.

"It should be good fun coming up against him for the first time.

"We're more focussed on us this week and how we want to play.

"We're disappointed with our defence last week and we're looking to fix it this week."

After facing a tough battle in the air last week with his individual opponent, Daniel Tupou, Naiqama said he was preparing for another aerial attack to come his way this weekend — especially up against a strong player in the air in James McManus.

"It's obviously something I need to work on, because of my height," he said.

"I know I'll be a target, but I don't prepare any different this week. It's something that I practice on after every training session, and even if I am good at it, I'll keep working at it.

"There's always room for improvement and that's definitely an area where I can improve."
